WA Trip - Rottnest Island
It's six months on, I'm putting the Christmas card together and realise the picture is from Rottnest Island. Which is beautiful. And with our moving in and making the new house just right I haven't felt like writing anything in ages. But, time to get on with it before I forget!
Most people visit Rottnest Island on a day trip, renting bikes to navigate around. I wasn't about to make my parents ride bikes, and I really wanted to see what the island was like in the evening so we made it a two day trip. The first day we rode the little train up to Olive Hill to explore. At the top is a 9.2 inch gun left from World War II, set to defend the west coast of Australia from any attacks.
Eager to see more of these cute little ones, we grabbed my parents and went to an evening stroll. This was seeing Rottnest Island at its finest.
Phil decided to start the following day by jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Actually, I'm going to take credit for that idea, I knew he wanted to some day and it seemed like the perfect place to do it.
After that we hopped on the bus that takes you around the island. There are several stops so we got off in a few different places to explore. The coastline was absolutely stunning!
We ended our Rottnest tour with lunch with the Quokkas before heading back on the ferry to Perth. We really enjoyed the quiet of the island at night and can't wait to go back and spend a few days there relaxing. It was the perfect end to our trip.

It wasn't until Phil and I went for an afternoon run that we really discovered the magic of Rottnest Island. As the tourists got back on the ferries and the sun started to go down, the scenery really lit up and the quokkas same out. They are such cute little critters, and so used to humans that they don't mind if you stop for a picture.
