I was fortunate to spend two weeks of June in Prague for work.  The Czech Republic hadn't been on our radar of places to visit, but when the opportunity came up, and considering we had to reschedule our vacation for this, we decided to make the most of it.  I flew over on the weekend and after the 14 hour flight to Dubai and then the 6 hour flight on to Prague was ready to explore.  A few coworkers and I took the train into town, walked up the hill to the castle, and had dinner by the river.  It was a good way to get oriented and start to understand how the city works.

My work has an office in the suburbs, so every day we would ride the train to and from work.  We went into the city a couple evenings during the week, and when Phil arrived on Thursday we went into Old Town for dinner.  We had a nice dinner outside on the cobblestones with a view of the Astronomical Clock and then tried a trdelnik for dessert on the way back.

The city got progressively busier towards the end of the week and by Friday night it was bustling.  We grabbed $2 beers along the river and soaked in the ambiance of the weekend.

The weekend was really our time to explore and enjoy this area.  Saturday we took a day trip to Bohemian Switzerland National Park, and Sunday we walked around Prague Castle.  We got an early start, which was the only way to see Charles Bridge not swarming with people.  The castle is up on a hill and gave us great views of the city.  We chose the ticket option that gave access to St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica, and Daliborka Tower.

I didn't have much time to explore the following week, but while I was slaving away at work Phil headed off to Vienna to explore on his own.

 When he got back at the end of the week we had one last dinner out in Prague, one last trdelnik, and one last look at the interesting statues and buildings.

A couple weeks ago Phil set out to climb Mt Baw Baw again with a couple like-minded (read: crazy) bike friends.  We drove out with Les and met John and Glenda at the primary school in Drouin to start the ride.   The crazies started on their ride while John and I headed off to explore the area by car. Tanna, Vanuatu Part 2

There was a wonderful snorkelling spot called the Blue Hole a short walk from the resort so we went there a couple times and frolicked with the fishies.  The weather was perfect and the water was warm so it was a very relaxing few days. An Aussie Birthday Party

My parents arrived at the beginning of April and we took the opportunity to have an Aussie Birthday Party for my mom.  We invited her Aussie friends over for dinner and they enjoyed the chance to catch up.  My mom met these friends through a painting convention they teach classes at in Vegas.  Year after year she kept taking their classes and they became great friends.  The convention is now a yearly tradition for them, and they fit in plenty of fun before and after.  They had just been over for a visit in March, so it was nice for them to get together and laugh about their trip without all the distractions.  I made an echidna cake for dessert that went down a hit, even with the very American peanut butter filling.  After the party they spent a few days with Janice and Ted and then had a visit with Karen and family before heading to Kangaroo Island with us.  All in all it was a great way to begin their visit over here.  Gail, my dad, and...
